12 Days and counting ...

Chris and Kate (our son and daughter-in-law) gave Glenn these wonderful flannel-lined pants for Christmas and he loves them!  He says it's like wearing pajamas all day long, only dressy!  I may be exaggerating a LITTLE when I say he's been wearing them for the past 12 days, but not by much!  (Hint to K & C for next year's Christmas present!  He'll want or need another pair by then!)

Earlier this week our landlord, Peter, came over to take care of a few repair jobs at our house, such as fixing one of the sidewalk bricks under which the sand had shifted, causing it to be a tripping hazard.  I love the way the Hungarians use cobblestones and sand for their sidewalks, driveways, and even streets!  It's so much prettier than concrete or asphalt.

Glenn and I have been enjoying a roaring fire in the fireplace every day for the past two blistery weeks so he ordered another pallet of firewood to make sure we'd have enough to last us through the winter.  Unfortunately, there's no where for the guy to put the pallet except right in the middle of our carport where our car goes, so Glenn always has to unload the pallet and put the wood in the corners of the carport and under the house.  Good exercise!

I found POP-TARTS at our mall!!!  Personally, I'm not a huge Pop-tarts fan (but I do like unfrosted blueberry and unfrosted brown sugar) but I know a lot of our personnel with children are, so I'm sure there will be a couple of families that are very happy to hear they've arrived in Hungary.  They won't be happy to hear that they cost about $7 a box!

This past weekend Glenn and I went with Billy and Sheri to the Hairy Pig Festival.  It's a weekend of great craft booths, delicious food and …

HAIRY PIGS!

They had a couple of pens with the cutest little piglets. It's hard to believe they can go from cute little piglets to those truly HAIRY hogs.

These wool hats are so colorful!  I wish I had the nerve to wear them.

This man sells hand-carved wooden utensils.

It was a cold, rainy day so the booth selling Hungarian style "wassail" was doing a booming business!  The display with the fruit hanging off the side was quite unique and attractive.

Isn't he good-looking?

These pastries of sweet dough, cooked on spindles over charcoal and then dredged in cinnamon sugar are sooooo good.

This food "booth" was selling pork steaks.  Deep fat fried pork steaks.  Slowly simmering all day long in pork grease.

You might want give blood at the blood mobile that is parked nearby, but I'd suggest you do it BEFORE you indulge in the deep fat fried pork steaks!

We're home again this week!
